Jasmine gets a makeover.

In the Aladdin TV series episode Elemental, My Dear Jasmine, Jasmine encounters a mermaid named Celine. Celine gives Jasmine a makeover and for a moment her hair resembles Ariel’s. Then Celine even said: she looks like every other princess under the sea. How subtle!

Genie as Ariel!

In The Return of Jafar, Aladdin and Genie try to steal Jafar's lamp. Genie transforms himself into an Ariel look-alike. He does it beautifully, as always.

Genie works his magic.

In Aladdin and the King of Thieves, Aladdin is away to rescue his father who is "trapped" within the legendary forty thieves. Jasmine feels miserable without him and Genie cheers her up by distracting her with her wedding plans. Genie then comes up with a few ideas to supposedly improve Jasmine's look, one of them involves a particular mermaid tail and purple seashells.

Alaskan King Crab?

In Aladdin, when Genie is trying to make Aladdin a prince, he pulls Sebastian out of his Royal Cookbook, and the first few notes of Under the Sea can be heard in the background.

Ariel's assets light up!

In A Goofy Movie, there is a lamp on one of the walls at Neptune Inn that resembles Ariel, and Max is entertained. :D

Shrek and Ariel were an item?

In Shrek II, Shrek and Fiona are chilling by the beach when the waves bring in a mermaid who looks like Ariel, with the red hair, green tail and all.

Possibly inspired?

In A Goofy Movie, Max's prospective girlfriend, Roxanne, has a hairstyle similar to that of Ariel's.

It's the bangs I tell you.

In Beauty and the Beast, one of the girls who worships Gaston has an Ariel-inspired hairstyle.

Disney redhead overload.

In Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, Anastasia gets a makeover in the story where she falls in love with the baker. Her new hairstyle is very much like Ariel's and both have vivid red hair.

Neato!

In the Mary Poppins 40th Anniversary Edition DVD, there is an animated short called The Cat That Looked At A King that is based on the Mary Poppins stories. In it, the Queen, voiced by Sarah Ferguson, has red hair and wears a pink dress that is very similar to the one Ariel wears when she attends dinner with Eric and Grimsby. Also, the King, voiced by David Ogden Stiers, is seen wearing a shirt very much like the one worn by Eric.

Ariel loans out her boyfriend...

In the Walt Disney film, Life-Size starring Lindsay Lohan and Tyra Banks, Eric makes an appearance as Eve the doll's boyfriend.

The king approves of the commotion.

During the animal attack on Vanessa and Eric's so-called wedding, Max breaks loose and is about to sink his canine teeth into Vanessa's behind. The King and Grand Duke from Cinderella can be seen standing together in the background, witnessing the commotion.

Cleavage lines.

Ariel was the first Disney Princess to be animated in such a way that the lines on her cleavage are visible. This continues for following Disney princesses like Belle and Jasmine.

I AM VYSONTO! URSULA YOU DIE NOW!

Originally, Ariel was to have a close friend named Vysonto who is a mutant merman with magical powers. In the final scenes, Vysonto would join in the battle of Ursula. He would protect Ariel by countering the beam emmitted by the trident, which Ursula had acquired. Eventually he would merge himself with his beam to make it more powerful hence sacrificing himself. In the meantime Eric would have more time to finish off Ursula. As we all know, it was not meant to be and Vysonto's design then inspired the character Rikuo from Capcom's Darkstalkers, a series of fighting games.

Walt Disney's The Little Mermaid

The movie was originally planned as one of Walt Disney's earliest films. But unforseen circumstances put the project on hold. When the movie was made in the 1980s, they had no idea that The Little Mermaid was one of Walt Disney's favourites. Concidentally the changes the studio made to the story were pretty similar to those that Walt made. They found Walt Disney's script for the movie while the movie was in production.

Recycle your wardrobe, people!

The dress Carlotta wears is inspired by Cinderella's rags.

PG-13?

Ariel was the first Disney character to be drawn naked from the waist down, although obviously no details beyond her hips can be seen.

Romantic serenade.

When Eric and Ariel are rowing in the lagoon, Scuttle is actually squawking Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet.

Do not try this as home!

Jodi Benson recorded Part of Your World in the dark so that she would feel like she was under the sea. Ahh, how nice. <3

You're named after a colour?

Ariel's tail is of a special green-blue colour which is invented by the Disney colour lab just for her. The colour is of course named Ariel.

But but, how are they gonna breathe?

At the beginning of the movie, King Triton enters the auditorium. Before he rides past the chandelier, Mickey, Donald and Goofy can be seen in the audience!

French connection.

The story of The Little Mermaid probably takes place in France as Ariel is seen buying baguettes during the tour of the kingdom, and Chef Louie sings "Les Poissons" instead of "Fish Fish Fish". Although, the latter sounds more catchy...

But won't it make a stinky home?

Ursula's lair is actually known as the Leviathan. The Leviathan is a legendary sea monster and it is used to train eel-men warriors. But in the end the Leviathan has to be killed. Ursula then makes a deal with the eel-men to acquire the carcass, which makes a pretty awesome home.

Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me?

There is a clear Hidden Mickey among the jumble of words on the contract that Ariel signed.

It ain't no airplane!

Jason Marin, Flounder's voice actor, plays Old Man Peabody's son, Sherman, in the first instalment of the Back to the Future trilogy (my favourite movies ever!) Marty McFly crashes into Old Man Peabody's barn and Sherman thinks the DeLorean is a flying saucer from outer space.

Once upon a dream.

There is a very interesting portrait of a couple hung on the wall of the dining room in Eric's castle. The couple looks like Phillip and Aurora of Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty. This reference is to recognise the fact that Sleeping Beauty was the last fairytale to be produced before The Little Mermaid.

Ursula attends the Half-human Convention.

Ursula makes a surprise appearance in the (very awesome) Hercules TV Series! She attends the Half-human Convention as a perfume seller in the episode Hercules and the Bacchanal.
