How do I even begin to describe the tale that is Disney's The Little Mermaid? A gem of a movie, it is something that comes along only every once in a while to steal our hearts.

The Little Mermaid is a tale of love, of adventure, of challenging norms and of going where no mermaid has ever gone before. The mermaid in question is none other than Ariel, the spirited and headstrong redhead who dares to dream.

Born as the seventh and youngest daughter of King Triton, this feisty princess of the sea could have everything she ever wanted. But that was the problem. She wanted more than a life under the sea.

As much as she knew that it was impossible, Ariel did not stop pursuing her dreams and it was her courage that made her stand out.

A thrilling tale, coupled with endearing characters, timeless music, and impressive animation, The Little Mermaid kick-started the Disney Renaissance, and rightly so. The film acted as a catalyst; the sleeping giant that is Disney animation had awaken.
